Custom plastic injection molding manufacturers——Asia Billion.
Many customers don't know exactly for draft angles of the custom plastic injection molding plastic part design. Here today. Asia Billion would like to share with you why the plastic injection molding need draft angle and how to define for different material.
Draft Angle basic design principles
Plastic products are usually designed to easily demolding the product from the mold and require an draft angle at the inside and outside of the edge. If the product has a vertical outer wall and is the same as the mold opening direction. , the mold needs a large mold opening force to open after the plastic molding, and the process of demolding after the mold is opened is also very difficult. If the product has reserved the mold angle in the product design process, All mold parts that come into contact with the product are highly polished during the process, and demolding becomes a breeze. Therefore, the consideration of the draft angle is indispensable in the process of product design.
Since the injection molded part is holded at the core side after cooling and shrinking, in order to make the product wall thickness is average and prevent the product sticking at the cavity side after the mold is opened, the mold draft shoudl be same for both sides. However, in special cases, if the product is required to be held at the cavity side after the mold is opened, the core side draft angles should be less than the core side or make some undercut to help to stop the part at cavity side.
There is no certain criterion for the size of the draft angle, and most of it is determined by experience and according to the depth of the product. In addition, the way of forming, wall thickness and choice of plastic are also considered. Generally, between 0.5 and 3 degrees, products with deep or grained surface require a corresponding increase in the mold angle. It is customary to use an additional 1 degree of draft angle for every 0.025 mm deep weave. The relationship between the angle of the die and the unilateral gap and the depth of the edge, the relationship between the draft angle and the unilateral gap is listed, which can be used as a reference.
In addition, when the product requires long and deep ribs and a small draft angle, the design of the ejector system must be specially treated, such as adding some blade ejector pins.
Design points for different materials:
ABS
Generally, the application of 0.5° to 1" is enough. Sometimes, because the polishing pattern is the same as the direction of the mold, the exit angle can be close to zero. The side of the grain needs to be increased by 1" at a depth of 0.025mm (0.001 in). The mold angle can be obtained from the etch supplier.
LCP
Because liquid crystal copolymers have high modulus and low ductility, the design of the undercut should be avoided. A minimum of 0.5° draft angle is required for all ribs, wall edges, pillars, etc. above the raised position. If the wall is deep or there is no polished surface and etched, etc., it is necessary to add an extra 0.5-1.5 ° or more.
PBT
If the surface finish of the part is good, a minimum draft angle of 0.5° is required. For an etched surface, an additional 1" stripping angle is required for each 0.03 m (0.001 in) depth increase.
PC
The draft angle is required on either side or the raised part of the part, including the upper and lower molds. The general brilliance surface is 1.5-2°, but the etched surface requires additional demolding. Angle, increase the draft angle by 0.25mm (0.001 in) per depth.
PET
The finished ribs of the plastic, the side walls of the pillars, the walls of the runners, etc., if the draft angle can reach 0.5-1 ° is enough.
PS
The 1" draft angle is the standard method. Too small a draft angle makes the part difficult to separate from the cavity. In any case, any draft angle is better than no angle. If the part is etched, such as the depth of the leather grain. For every 0.025mm deep, add 1" stripping angle.
