Advantages of Plastic Properties:
The advantages of plastics are easy to process and easy to manufacture. Even if the geometry of the product is quite complex, it can be easily produced as long as it can be released from the mold. Therefore, its efficiency is far better than metal processing, especially injection molding products, through a process, can produce very complex finished products. It can be colored as needed, or made into a transparent product. The plastic can be used to make five-color, transparent and beautiful products. It can also be arbitrarily colored, which can improve its commodity value and give people a bright feeling. Lightweight and high-strength products can be made into light and high-strength products, compared with metal and ceramic products, with light weight, good mechanical properties and high specific strength (ratio of strength to density). In particular, after filling the glass fiber, the strength can be increased.
In addition, due to the light weight of plastics, energy can be saved, so its products are becoming increasingly lightweight. It does not rust and is not easily corroded. Plastics are generally resistant to corrosion by various chemicals and are not as rusty or corroded as metals. Do not worry about the erosion of acids, alkalis, salts, oils, chemicals, moisture and mold when using. It is not easy to transfer heat and has good thermal insulation performance. Because plastic has large specific heat, small thermal conductivity and low heat transfer, its heat preservation and heat insulation effect is good. It can be used as both a conductive component and an insulating product. The plastic itself is a good insulating material. It can be said that no electrical product does not use plastic.
However, if the plastic is filled with metal powder or chips for molding, it can also be made into a conductive product. Disadvantages of plastic:
Poor heat resistance and easy burning are the biggest disadvantages of plastics. Compared with metal and glass products, their heat resistance is far inferior. When the temperature is slightly higher, it will be deformed and easy to burn. Most plastics produce a lot of heat, smoke and toxic gases when burned; even thermosetting resins emit more than 200 degrees Celsius and cause spalling. As the temperature changes, the nature will also change the high temperature. It is self-evident that even if it encounters low temperatures, various properties will change greatly. The lower mechanical strength is much lower than that of the same volume of metal, especially for thin articles. This difference is particularly pronounced.
It is easy to be corroded by special solvents and drugs. Generally speaking, plastics are less susceptible to chemical corrosion, but some plastics (such as PC, ABS, PS, etc.) are particularly poor in properties; in general, thermosetting resins are resistant to corrosion. Very strong. Poor durability, easy to age, no strength, surface gloss or transparency, not durable, subject to creep. In addition, all plastics are exposed to ultraviolet light and sunlight, and will age under the action of light, oxygen, heat, water and the atmosphere. Vulnerable to damage, dust and dirt
The surface hardness of plastics is relatively low and is easily damaged. In addition, since it is an insulator, it is electrostatically charged, so it is easily contaminated with dust. Poor dimensional stability
Compared with metal, plastic shrinkage is very high, so dimensional accuracy is worse than metal. The size tends to change over time as it is wet, hygroscopic, or temperature changes during use.
