AS plastic resin introduction
The AS resin is known as acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer. A polymer compound obtained by copolymerizing acrylonitrile and styrene. It generally contains 15%-50% styrene. A solid, yellowish to amber-colored solid. The density is 1.06. It has thermoplasticity. Not easy to change color. Not affected by dilute acid, dilute alkali, dilute alcohol and gasoline. However, it is soluble in acetone, ethyl acetate, dichloroethylene or the like. Can be used as engineering plastics. It has excellent heat resistance and solvent resistance. Used in oil resistant mechanical parts, instrument cases, instrument panels, battery boxes, tractor fuel tanks, battery casings, packaging containers, daily necessities, etc. Can also be drawn into a monofilament. However, it is mainly used as a blend for the production of ABS resins.
The acrylonitrile-styrene copolymer is obtained by a bulk method, a suspension method or an emulsion method from acrylonitrile and styrene. Transparent or translucent water white particles. The relative density is 1.06-1.08. The refractive index is 1.57. The equilibrium water absorption is 0.66%. The heat distortion temperature is 82-105 °C. High gloss, high transparency, high impact, good heat resistance and mechanical properties. It has high rigidity, high chemical stability, water resistance, oil resistance, acid resistance, alkali resistance and alcohol resistance. Soluble in ketone solvents and certain aromatics, chlorinated hydrocarbons. Medium weather resistance and high brittleness.

SAN (AS) has higher impact strength and excellent heat resistance, oil resistance and chemical resistance than polystyrene. For example, it is well resistant to certain hydrocarbons that cause polystyrene stress cracking. The modulus of elasticity is the higher of the existing thermoplastics.
AS is a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer and is less prone to internal stress cracking. High transparency, softening temperature and impact strength higher than PS.
Physical and chemical properties:
SAN (AS) has a strong load carrying capacity, chemical resistance, thermal deformation resistance and geometric stability. The addition of glass fiber additives to SAN (AS) increases strength and resistance to thermal deformation and reduces thermal expansion coefficient. The Vicat softening temperature of SAN (AS) is about 110 °C. The deflection temperature under load is about 100 °C. SAN (AS) shrinkage is about 0.3-0.7%. SAN (AS) is a hard, transparent material. Styrene makes SAN (AS) hard, transparent and easy to process; acrylonitrile makes SAN (AS) chemically and thermally stable.
Injection molding process:
The processing temperature of AS is generally 200-250 ° C. The material is easy to absorb moisture and needs to be dried for more than one hour before processing. Its fluidity is slightly worse than PS, so the injection pressure is slightly higher. Drying SAN (AS) has some hygroscopic properties if not properly stored. The recommended drying conditions are 80 ° C for 2-4 hours.
The melting temperature is 200-270 °C. If a thick walled product is processed, a melting temperature below the lower limit can be used.
The mold temperature is 40-80 °C. For reinforced materials, the mold temperature should not exceed 60 °C. The cooling system must be well designed because the mold temperature will directly affect the appearance, shrinkage and bending of the product.
